Preparing for College
Beyond the Books
Grades and entrance exam scores are very important, however, you don’t have to be a straight-A student. College admissions offices look for leadership skills as well as your school/life balance. They want to see how well you are able to manage different activities and responsibilities with your school work and grades. This could be a part-time job, sports, music, hobbies, or clubs. Balance is the key.
Volunteer work, especially in areas you are passionate about, can also be a distinguishing and a deciding factor on your application. If you haven’t already, spend some time exploring what you value in life, and then find ways to give back to others and your community.
