Preparing for College
Academics
Good grades, especially in core classes, make a difference in high school as well as on your college application. It’s important to master good study habits and homework skills as soon as you can. It will help prepare you for college level coursework and college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT.
If you’re in high school, non-core classes also offer an opportunity to explore interests, learn your strengths, and develop additional skills. If you have credit hours available, take a variety of classes to demonstrate broad interests and balance.
Talk to your high school counselor for recommendations on the best non-core classes to take. If you’re post high-school, work with the admissions office of the colleges you’re interested in attending to learn what life, work, and volunteer experiences may help.
